La escultura lleva el nombre de “Mariposa de la vida” y el reconocido artista Pablo Atchugarry la creó en Italia; la obra fue trasladada en siete contenedores desde ese país hasta Uruguay. Tiene casi 12 metros de altura, pesa 30 toneladas y está valuada en dos millones de dólares.
La escultura es de acero inoxidable y el artista la donó en homenaje al pueblo de Maldonado y también a su hermano Alejandro, cuyo nombre lleva la Ruta 104. En ese marco, el pasado sábado 28 de diciembre fue inaugurada en la intersección de esa Ruta y la Ruta 10.
El intendente Enrique Antía agradeció la generosidad de Pablo Atchugarry que «con entrega permanente actúa con la comunidad” y dijo estar muy emocionado. Recordó que en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Atchugarry (MACA) se brinda con generosidad y tuvo la idea de desafiarnos con la instalación de una gran escultura.
Además, sostuvo que el turismo cultural forma parte del desarrollo del departamento y recordó el cambio del clásico “Sol y Playa” para alcanzar un turismo de todo el año. En tal sentido, indicó que “hoy hay un turismo cultural y la Ruta 104 va a ser el eje”, al tiempo que señaló que existe consumo de calidad de expresiones culturales.
Antía anunció que se construirá un deck sobre esa ruta, la cual servirá para que el turismo pueda sacarse fotos con la escultura teniendo al mar como fondo, dado que se realizará a escala. Y concluyó afirmando que es un orgullo para Maldonado tener a un artista como Atchugarry.
A todo esto el presidente Luis Lacalle Pou utilizó lo que denominó un término rioplatense al referirse a Pablo Atchugarry como “un crack”. Hablando de la persona -desde donde se genera la idea, la creación y el trabajo desde la escultura a la realidad- expresó que tiene la “humildad de los grandes”, de aquel que sabe que es admirado pero populariza la cultura con esta obra que es “arte a cielo abierto”.
